Mundelein v. Trevians – June 24
Trevian Silver rallied early against Mundelein with a 10-3 lead going into the 3rd inning. Sara Hummel had 3 base hits after just recovering from a knee injury, and utilized her amazing speed by beating out a throw from the second baseman. Heather Franson did some outstanding fielding in left field, and kept Mundelein from scoring more than a couple of runs in the first two innings. Meghan Kelly had two good hits that kept the Trevians competing as they went into the final inning with a score of 12-13. Mundelein finally figured out the Trevians’ pitching and started clobbering the ball and finally pulled ahead in the end.

Scrimmage with Highland Park – July 1
The Trevians played well against the undefeated Giants in this scrimmage. Abbey Reinhart went two for two including a fly ball over the third baseman’s head. Heather Franson her best ball of the season – a long liner to left center. Natalie Klein hit down the third base line and her speed earned her an easy single.

Trevians v. Wauconda Wildcats – July 7
Madeleine Knight had a beautiful bunt off of the Wildcat’s fast pitcher. Catherine Hinkamp wasn’t afraid of their pitcher and hit two for three, and tiny Lexi Bundy swung away as she hit a fly ball to the right side. Lexi was called safe at home as she slid underneath the tag. Wauconda disputed it, but Lexi’s dad caught it on film (see photo). Meghan Kelly wasn’t afraid of Wauconda’s big bats and made two clean plays in left field to keep the runners from scoring. Lexi Bundy impressed everyone with her quick reflexes and lateral movement at second base. Abbey Reinhart led the team in stolen bases.

Trevians v. Mundelein – July 9
Katie McCarren had an amazing double off Mundelein’s pitcher and Abbey Reinhart got herself on base all 4 times she came up to bat, including two hits past the infield. Meghan Kelly had a single and a double, and assisted in one of the most impressive defensive plays of the season. As second baseman, she quickly covered second base when the first baseman ran up to field a ball and then caught it for a narrow out at first base. Natalie Klein snagged a backhanded linedrive at second base for her best catch of the season! Heather Franson was a pro at shortstop, scooping up grounders, calling out the plays and even caught her first fly ball of the season. Lexi Bundy also had a beautiful catch at second base and scored against Mundelein.

Deerfield Dynamite Tournament – July 13
Dynamite v. Trevians
Catherine Hinkamp had 5 strikeouts in her two innings of pitching. Jane Tilson was not to be outdone, as she followed Catherine with 5 more strikeouts in her two innings of pitching. Morgan Dart had an outstanding double into right field and Jane and Katie McCarren each followed with singles. Katie went two for two that game, and Sara Hummel knocked a hard base hit up the middle and into the outfield. Lexi Bundy had a good hit and her road-runner speed put her to first base in no time, and then she promptly stole second base. Sara Hummel also successfully tried her hand at catching and was a pro in no time. The Trevians battled, but lost a narrow 5-3 game.

Warriors v. Trevians
The Trevians brought out their bats for this game, and Alicia Bagan came back from out of town just so she could go 3 for 3 in this game. Katie McCarren hit a long ball up the middle and the Warriors were lucky to be able to keep it to a single. Gillian Gossard scored three times. Madeleine Knight was fierce behind the plate as catcher, hardly letting anything get by her. Catherine Hinkamp was solid as ever at first base. Abbey Reinhart had two hits and scored twice. Sara Hummel and Katie McCarren pitched well, and even though they couldn’t please the ump they could please their teammates as everyone cheered them on. Trevian Silver won this game 15-10.

Trevians v. Northbrook - July 16
This game was one of the best games of the season for Trevian Silver. The Trevians played great defense and everyone swung hard when they were up. Catherine Hinkamp, Katie McCarren and Jane Tilson all pitched well against Northbrook, throwing in some hard strikes despite a tight strike zone. Natalie Klein knocked a double way into right field and easily glided around first and second. Morgan Dart had a single down the left field line, and then followed up with a single down the right field line while she batted .1000 this game. Catcher Katie McCarren threw out the a runner trying to steal third base for the first time this Trevian season, thanks in part to smart third baseman Jane Tilson. Madeleine Knight played excellent defense in center field by backing up several throws and always keeping her head in the game. As always, Madeleine’s long reach and great glove at first base helped the Trevians defense. Jane kept the defensive momentum going by catching a line drive and stepping on 3rd base for Trev Silver’s first single-handed double play of the season. Jane later went on to catch another fly ball as pitcher. Sara Hummel caught a pop-up at catcher, and two innings later went out to shortstop and caught a fly ball way over her head. Alicia Bagan had her head in the game and covered third base for Sara’s sharp throw and a near double play. Gillian Gossard fielded a ball in right field and threw out the runner at first. Abbey Reinhart showed off her speed by stunning Northbrook by beating out a throw from their pitcher. Then from center field, Abbey wowed the crowd by throwing out a runner at first base. This was Meghan Kelly’s last game of the season, but she stayed sharp the whole game and backed up every throw to third base, covered first when needed and swung the bat well while at the plate. A group hug was in order as the team all wished Meghan well as she heads off to camp!

May 29 against Deerfield Warriors, Trevs Win 9-3
Emily Siegel started Silver off scoring with a 2 run homer up the middle. Abbey Reinhart’s hit to center field and speed on the bases gave her a double to follow up Emily’s homer. Lexi Bundy rejoined her team with a cast on her leg to get a base hit which scored two more runs. Speedy Natalie Klein pinch ran for her and eventually scored. Alicia Bagan kept her hitting streak going with a double and single including a long fly ball to centerfield. Madeleine Knight had a homerun with a hard hit up the middle. Meghan Kelly and Sabrina played well defensively at second base and first base, respectively.
June 1 against Deerfield Warriors, Warriors Win 7-4
It was Abbey Reinhart’s turn for a homerun this game! Heather Franson did a nice job at first base, single handedly fielding a grounder and stepping on the base. Meghan Kelly and Morgan Dart both caught fly balls, and also both hit singles during the game. Lexi Bundy’s leg cast didn’t keep her from nailing the ball as she sent her pinch hitter, Madeleine Knight, on a single and a double. Katie McCarren had a single and a double as well.

June 3 against Glenview Titans Blue, Titans Win 10-9
This game was a battle until the very end. Catcher Emily Siegel whipped off her mask to catch the first pop up of the season at catcher. Catherine Hinkamp coolly caught a fly ball at first base. All three pitchers – Sara, Sabrina and Katie were impressive. Lexi Bundy drew a walk twice which ended up scoring two of the Trevians’ runs, and Natalie Klein’s lightning speed and aggressive baserunning scored her twice as well.
Trevian Tourney:
Game 1 – June 12: Trev Silver started out against Highland Park Giants with a tough battle and eventual 12-5 win by Highland Park. Alicia Bagan kept the Trevs hitting by going two for two. Heather Franson was aggressive on the bases, and eventually scored. Emily Siegel had a great hit and scored twice, and showed her defensive skill at catcher and short by earning the team’s MVP.

Game 2 – June 14: Silver battled the Northbrook Gold “B” team but lost 15-6, with nice singles by Abbey and Meghan, and Heather Franson had some nice hits that barely beat her to the base. Jane Tilson stepped in to hold the Gold Team in her inning, and allowed only one run against Northbrook’s strong bats. She earned the Team MVP for her terrific clutch pitching.
Game 3 – June 14: Although the score of 20-4 didn’t reflect the Trev Silver’s great defense against the Northbrook Green “A” team (which eventually won the Blue Division), three girls made amazing fly ball catches including a long ball catch by Lexi Bundy in right field that stopped a triple or homer, Emily Siegel made another nice line drive catch at shortstop and Gillian Gossard dove for a fly ball at 3rd base and earned the MVP for that play. Abbey Reinhardt stayed tough against this team with her great hitting.

Game 4 – June 14: Trev Silver won their game against Deerfield Silver 21-5 with great pitching by Sara Hummel and Sabrina Barkal. Basehits by Sara, Alicia, Madeleine, Meghan and Abbey helped the Trevians secure this solid win to end their last game in the Trevian Tournament. Jane Tilson caught a line drive at shortstop which earned her the MVP for this game.
June 16 League Game vs. Northbrook White – Northbrook wins 9-8
This well-matched game went back and forth. Sara and Jane Tilson pitched very well this game. Morgan Dart and Natalie Klein hit the ball well each time they came up to bat. Catherine Hinkamp was 3 for 3 and scored each time. Sara Hummel was 2 for 3. Catcher Madeleine Knight made a great play on a passed ball by throwing to pitcher Jane Tilson for a tag out at home. Katie had a great play at shortstop, easily throwing out a runner at first base. Katie also successfully executed the Silver’s first base on balls continuous motion steal. Catherine Hinkamp had a great catch in left field.
June 19 League Game vs. LYAA Wildcats – Wildcats win 17-6
The Trevs traveled a long way to play this undefeated team. Natalie Klein caught a line drive at third base to end the first inning. In the 2nd inning, third baseman Gillian Gossard scooped up a sharp grounder and threw a rope to 1st baseman Catherine Hinkamp. Pitcher Katie McCarren made a clean play to first base and had a strike out to end the inning. In the third inning, Natalie Klein came in to pitch against the Wildcats and impressed everyone with her powerful speed on the ball. Natalie and catcher Jane Tilson teamed up to have a tag out at home when the Wildcats tried to score on a passed ball. In the 4th inning Lexi Bundy came in to pitch cold and after the first two batters, was throwing well and pitched some nice strikes.

June 22 Scrimmage Doubleheader with LYAA Wildcats – Game 1 Wildcats win 20-6; Game 2 Wildcats win 14-12
The Trevs struggled in this loss against the Wildcats, but speedsters like Morgan Dart and Meghan Kelly were able to get on base and score right away against the Wildcats. The Trevs really showed their sliding skill with beautiful slides into home plate by Heather Franson, Gillian Gossard and Jane Tilson. In the second game, the Trevians came rallying back with an 11-0 lead going into the third inning. Madeleine Knight made an amazing major-league play by catching the sharpest line drive shot we’ve seen this year at shortstop and firing the ball to first baseman Catherine Hinkamp for a double play. Gillian Gossard caught a pop fly ball at third base, and Natalie Klein had a great catch in center field. Morgan Dart kept her head in the game as always, calling out the plays and keeping her team together on the field. Heather Franson and Natalie Klein showed their pitching skill by pitching strikes with good speed against the fierce Wildcats. The Wildcats came back scratching and clawing and rallied with aggressive basestealing to pull ahead with a 14-12 win over the Trevs.

Trev Silver played a practice doubleheader against the LYAA Wildcats Saturday, battling to a tie and a loss in the two closely fought games.
In the first game pitcher Jane Tilson struck out three in two innings while Sabrina Barkal struck out four batters in two. Morgan Dart and Emily Siegel each had two stolen bases. Sara Hummel got a nice hit, bringing in speedy Morgan Dart for the RBI. Katie McCarren played tough at home plate against the aggressive Wildcats.

In the second game, the Trevs took out their bats, scoring seven runs. Madeleine Knight was fearless at the plate, hitting the ball up the middle and laying down a perfect bunt, scoring on both hits. Gillian Gossard showed the Wildcats she wasn’t afraid of their fastest pitcher, getting a base hit up the middle, and beating the throw to first. On defense, pitcher Katie McCarren took charge of the game, making all the outs in her 3 innings of play – striking out 8 and snagging a fly ball. Emily Siegel did a great job at catcher until she was hit by a pitch and sidelined. She hung tough and cheered her team on the rest of the game. Natalie Klein stunned the crowd by scooping up a sharp grounder at shortstop and throwing a bullet to first base for one of the most exciting plays of the game. |
On Sunday, Trev Silver overcame the Glenview Titans, with Sara Hummel wowing the crowd by striking out 13 in her six innings of play. Alicia Bagan was the team’s powerhouse at the plate, going 3 for 3, smacking the ball into right field and up the middle. Alicia also shined at second base, throwing out a close play to first baseman Abbey Reinhart. Abbey continued to show her power at the plate with two great hits, and impressed everyone with her speed on the bases. Sabrina Barkal excelled at first, fielding a grounder for an out and catching an inning-ending fly ball. Sabrina also had a perfect bunt and stole home twice. Madeleine Knight had two singles and was aggressive on the bases with an astonishing six stolen bases, including stealing home twice. Meghan Kelly played great defense, cleanly fielding a groundball at second base to easily throw out the runner to first baseman Sabrina. Heather Franson showed her team allegiance by coming straight from the airport to join the game and then getting a good hit to the shortstop. Jane Tilson hit the ball every time she was up to bat, including a single and two stolen bases. Morgan Dart looked like a pro at second base making great plays to first base. Katie McCarren pitched the last inning, keeping her cool by fielding a short ball in front of the plate and throwing out the runner at first for the last out against the Titans.
